Ministry of Welcome

Although not a group answerable to the PCC, the responsibility for organising the rota falls to the Churchwarden, and the working guidelines established by the Ministers of Welcome in consultation with the Parish Priest and Churchwardens.

Those exercising this ministry do so in Christ's name and on behalf of the parish community. Such ministry extends far beyond the scope of the Sidespersons' duties of counting heads and giving out books; it is part of the missionary activity of the church, and continues in the Parish Centre after Sunday worship. Whilst the liturgy may prove an uplifting experience, raising us towards an experience of the mystery and love of God, all must feel welcomed and valued as members of God's family, especially newcomers who have plucked up courage to come through the church door - perhaps for the first time in many years. The vital importance of this ministry may well be summed up as "We don't get a second chance to make a first impression."
